With summer comes a rise in humidity and for wood floors it’s a time of expansion. As the humidity rises, the artificial expansion rows in a floor will close and even the spaces along the edges of the floors may shrink. In some cases, slight cupping may occur. However, none of this will affect the playability of the floor because each condition is only temporary and will disappear as the humidity returns to normal or the flooring acclimates to the conditions.
The best way to ensure that your floor does not experience any major issues is to make sure the HVAC is continually maintaining the environment. If you don’t have a HVAC system that is able to condition the air, create some kind of constant air movement to keep major issues from arising.
